Britain needs to power the industries of the future and we accept that solar power has a role to play in this mix; it is quick to deploy and provides useful supplementary capacity to the grid.
However, we are in danger of making a catastrophic strategic error. Developers are currently taking the "path of least resistance," using our countryside simply because it is the cheapest option. When we build our "Best and Most Versatile" land we lose it for farming. This drives up land prices, squeezes out tenant farmers and reduces our food security
Our rolling hills are not just scenery, they are a working factory floor that puts food on our tables and supports our rural economy. We should be utilising "dead space" like industrial rooftops, brownfield sites and reservoirs, not the soil that feeds us.
